Barons Held in Check by Tides, Lose, 5-1
|
The Norfolk Tides defeated the Birmingham Barons, 5-1. Catcher Andy Gothier deserved a large share of the credit. Gothier went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Tides. Wyatt Boisseau earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. The second-place Barons now sit at 69-35.
With Norfolk leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Gothier hit a fastball from Antek Franiak for a grand slam home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Tides ahead, 5-0.
"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Tides manager Manuel Ochoa.
