The Durham Bulls defeated the Newark Bears, 9-3. Third Baseman Oliver Melendez deserved a large share of the credit. Melendez was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Bulls. Jerry Aguilar, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 11-0. Durham is now 57-44.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Melendez hit a 2-run home run off Brody Gaub. It propelled the Bulls into the lead, 3-1.
"Oliver leaves the last at-bat behind him, whether it was good or bad, and goes up there and competes on every pitch," said Durham manager Ryan Olson.
