Bears 6-2 Victors Over Red Sox

The Newark Bears knocked off the Pawtucket Red Sox, 6-2, in International League action at Valiants Ballpark. Newark pitcher and Kihei, Hawaii, native Chad Beckner had an outstanding performance. Beckner yielded no runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-3. Newark is 42-55 and Pawtucket, with the loss, 47-50.
Eric Roberts had a big grand slam home run for the Bears in the bottom of the third inning. With Newark leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Isaiah Williams and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Bears on top, 6-0.
Roberts attributed the win to his team's "collective resolve."
