The Buffalo Bisons topped the Newark Bears, 5-2, in International League action at Valiants Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Buffalo pitcher and London, Canada, native Cal Whitfield. Brom Kucera earned the save, his 4th in 4 tries. The victory gives Buffalo a record of 53-42.
It could have been a different outcome for Buffalo, had it not been for Johnny Lien, the 26-year old catcher . Lien contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put Buffalo up, 3-1.
Buffalo manager Rich Hernandez called it "a pretty good win."
