Stripers Slip Past Columbus, 6-5
|
The Gwinnett Stripers weathered a fine game by Columbus left fielder Carlo Sheard to upend the Clippers, 6-5, at Huntington Park. Sheard was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Gwinnett reliever Benjamin Reid picked up the win to move to 2-1. Neville Raab suffered the loss. The Stripers, at 32-55, sit in last place in the International League Southwest Division.
Gwinnett used the timely hitting of Gavin McBride to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Stripers on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said McBride.
