In a low-scoring contest between the Charlotte Knights and the Toledo Mud Hens, 24-year old left-handed pitcher Vern Driver proved to be the difference. The Charlotte left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-0 Knights win. By defeating Toledo, the 4th-place Knights improved to 49-39.

It could have been a different outcome for Charlotte, had it not been for Alan Valenzuela, the 31-year old first baseman . Valenzuela contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Charlotte up, 1-0.

"Vern is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Charlotte manager Zhu Yu.
