Bears Knock Off Bats, 3-2
|
Newark Bears starter Brian Alsman turned in a sterling performance against the Louisville Bats, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Alsman, the winner, moves to 2-4. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 6 walks. The last-place Bears are 24-57.
Mark Wade drove in one run for Newark. The 28-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Cecil Valentino. It was his 21st RBI of the season.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Alsman told the Newark Observer. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
