Newark Beats Charlotte, 6-3
|
Benefiting from Nolan Gore's productive game, the Newark Bears downed the Charlotte Knights, 6-3. Gore went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Bears. Tarik Hogue, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 4-4. Ryan Stucky was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
Gore had no bigger at-bat than in the top of the fifth when the 25-year old first baseman hit a double. The double gave Newark the lead, 1-0. It was his 11th double of the season.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Gore told reporters after the game.
Despite the win, the Bears still have a pitiful 23-57 record.
