Barons Stymie Gwinnett, Take 4-1 Win
|
Birmingham starter Hunter Vandi had a strong outing against the Gwinnett Stripers at Raley Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-1 win. Birmingham pitcher Parker Coleman got the win. He's now 2-5. Joe Velasco was tagged with the loss. Napoleon Palmer earned the save, his 6th, for the Barons.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Barklay Fuchs came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Gwinnett pitcher Theo Barrera, he hit a 1-0 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Birmingham on top, 2-1.
"Hunter did a tremendous job," said Birmingham manager Chase Barnes.
Birmingham has a record of 35-43, placing them 8th in the International League Southwest Division.
