Barons Lose Late, 4-1
|
Birmingham got a terrific performance from pitcher Aden Fierro, but it wasn't enough to beat the Gwinnett Stripers. Gwinnett won the Raley Field contest, 4-1. Fierro threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Christopher Stark earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. His record is now 1-2. Jake Scumaci picked up the save for Gwinnett, his 5th of the year.
Gwinnett used a timely hit from Michael Obodo to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Stripers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Obodo. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
The Stripers sit in last place in the International League Southwest Division with a record of 30-47.
