Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Syracuse Chiefs and Gwinnett Stripers.
The Syracuse Chiefs topped the Gwinnett Stripers, 3-2, in International League action at Victory Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Syracuse pitcher Elijah Hayes. Hayes, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Getting the save was Daniel Leone, his 11th.
Max Smallwood helped out the Syracuse cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 4 with a double.
"That was a really good outing by Elijah," said Syracuse manager Abe Blowers.
The Chiefs raised their record to 38-37.
