Smallwood Goes Wild, But Stripers Win
The Gwinnett Stripers had to overcome a big game from Syracuse first baseman Max Smallwood to leave Victory Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 15-13. Smallwood went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. The winner in relief was Samuel Allen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 2-0. Zachary Murch finished to wrap up his 9th save.

Kevin Phillips had a key at-bat with two out in the top of the eighth for Gwinnett. With the bases loaded and the Stripers leading 14-13, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Phillips, "but we got it done."

After today's action, Gwinnett sits at 34-39; Syracuse slips to 36-37.
