Barons Deal Bears 2-1 Setback
|
Roger Woods was masterful in helping the Wilkes-Barre Barons take down the Newark Bears, 2-1. Woods, the winner, moves to 4-6. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. Trevor Pepple recorded the save, his 2nd.
The Barons got a big at-bat from left fielder Marvin Holts. For the game, Holts went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 19th double of the season gave Wilkes-Barre a 2-1 lead.
"We scored one run," said Newark manager Jessie Moe. "You're not gonna get a lot of Ws scoring just one run."
The 4th-place Barons lifted their record to 39-36.
