Stripers Stick Bears with 4-3 Loss
|
Good production from center fielder Simon Pierce helped the Gwinnett Stripers topple the Newark Bears, 4-3. Pierce was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks for the Stripers. Gilbert Hill picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Daunte Hobbs was tagged with the loss. Theo Barrera was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 13 save opportunities.
The Stripers got a big at-bat from first baseman Paul Carter. For the game, Carter was 2-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 6th double of the season gave Gwinnett a 2-0 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Pierce said.
Gwinnett, at 26-43, occupies last place in the International League Southwest Division.
