Oddballs Drop Barons, 4-1
|
At Ottawa Ballpark, the Wilkes-Barre Barons and Ottawa Oddballs were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Ottawa Oddballs downed the Wilkes-Barre Barons, 4-1, at Ottawa Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Kurtis Thomas had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. The winner was Thomas. He threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Doug Freligh.
Joseph Kaplan had a big 2-run home run for the Oddballs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Ottawa leading 2-1 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from 36-year old left-handed pitcher Doug Freligh and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Oddballs ahead, 4-1.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Kaplan told the Ottawa Chronicle. "Whatever it takes."
The Oddballs now own a record of 31-32.
