Bears Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Red Sox, 3-2
|
Pawtucket got a valiant performance from pitcher Vitorio Taveras, but it wasn't enough to beat the Newark Bears. Newark won the game, 3-2. Taveras threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Mitch Day, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-3. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. Ferrer Silva closed the game out for Newark, earning his 2nd save.
Mitchel Martin helped out the Newark cause in the top of the eighth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the pinch hitter drew 1 walk.
Said losing manager Daniel Holcombe: "Not taking anything away from them, but we swung the bats better than what it showed."
Newark, with the win, sits at 19-42.
