Vancouver got a terrific game from left fielder Lawrence Carla. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Oakland, 8-5. Carla went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Zane Goettl got the win, improving to 8-10. He held the Cascades to 5 runs on 6 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The 'W' lifts Oakland's record to 57-80.

Oakland used a clutch hit from Jacob Hitchens to get the win. The center fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Athletics ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We take it day by day here," said Hitchens, "and today was a good one for us."
