In a low-scoring game between the Cleveland Indians and the Portland Hops, pitcher Rick Benfer was the difference-maker. The Cleveland right-hander was tough as nails in the 2-1 Indians win. Ken Quinones picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Drew Thomas suffered the loss. The 5th-place Hops dropped to 42-95.

The Indians got a big at-bat from catcher Niceto Bracamonte. For the game, Bracamonte went 2-3 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 20th double of the season gave Cleveland a 2-1 lead.
