6-2 Loss to Mets Extends Portland Losing Streak
The New York Mets beat the Portland Hops, 6-2, at Citi Field. Vennancio García, who is tied for 7th in the AL in hits with 47, starred for New York. He went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Joji Naito locked down his 3rd save. Portland, at 17-21, has lost 8 straight.

There was more than one reason the Mets beat the Hops, but García's big at-bat in the bottom of the second was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run double.

"I want us to come out, have fun, hit some balls, and score. We're having a tough time," said Nelson Espinoza, the Portland manager.
