Barons Bump Off Stripers, 7-2
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Birmingham Barons and Gwinnett Stripers.
Birmingham registered a win at Raley Field by beating the Gwinnett Stripers, 7-2. Pitcher Will Leach was one reason why the Barons triumphed. Leach, now 1-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Braylon Hanson earned the save for Birmingham, his 1st of the year.
The Barons got a big at-bat from catcher Randy Yates. For the game, Yates was 1-3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 3rd double of the season gave Birmingham a 3-2 lead.
"Will was bobbing and weaving the whole game," said Birmingham manager Matt Baker.
The victory gives Birmingham a record of 34-25.
