Grizzlies Nose Past Columbus, 6-5
|
Chukchansi Park was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Maine Grizzlies and Columbus Clippers.
Columbus catcher Harald Cain had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cain was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, even as Maine beat the Clippers, 6-5. Alan Welsh, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
The Grizzlies got a big at-bat from shortstop Noah Gaston. For the game, Gaston was 1-4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 1st triple of the season gave Maine a 4-3 lead.
"Ah," said Gaston in a jubilant clubhouse, "the sweet smell of victory!."
Maine, at 25-28, sits in 5th place in the International League Northeast Division.
