Bulls Snatch Late Win
|
The Columbus Clippers got a superb performance from pitcher Jim Kirchhoff. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Durham. The Bulls won the game, 3-2. Kirchhoff threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Zach Merrifield, now 1-2, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Kraig Colon sewed up the save, his 4th.
Durham used the timely hitting of Aydan Mettler to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Bulls on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were in it," said Columbus manager Scott Manning. "We just didn't score enough runs."
Durham is now 25-25, while Columbus is 23-27.
