Barons Wiggle Past Columbus, 4-3
|
A good performance from third baseman Ennis Vasquez helped the Wilkes-Barre Barons defeat the Columbus Clippers, 4-3. Vasquez went 4 for 4 with 4 singles for the Barons. Fulgencio Ochoa earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-2. Jon Purser, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Wilkes-Barre used the timely hitting of Phillip Villarreal to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Barons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Said Wilkes-Barre manager Hector Vidal: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
Wilkes-Barre, at 21-28, sits in 7th place in the International League Northeast Division.
