Tides Lose By a Run at Gwinnett, 3-2
|
The Gwinnett Stripers topped the Norfolk Tides, 3-2, in International League action at Coolray Field. The standout performance belonged to Gwinnett pitcher and Kent, Washington, native Jake Scumaci. Scumaci picked up the win for Gwinnett, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 9 hits. He now sports a record of 1-2. Theo Barrera got the save, the 6th for him this season.
The Tides had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Stripers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old second baseman John Krueckeberg came to the plate. Krueckeberg hit a solo home run on a 0-1 curveball from Norfolk hurler Johnny Weber. It was Krueckeberg's 5th home run of the year.
"The most important thing is that we won," Krueckeberg said.
With the victory, the Stripers record now stands at 18-27.
