Barons Topple Grizzlies, 2-0
|
The Maine Grizzlies got a superb performance from pitcher Wyatt Leger, but the Birmingham Barons still won the game, 2-0. Leger threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Birmingham reliever Zion Mazza picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Paul Ten Velde was saddled with the loss. Pastor Olivas was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Birmingham used the timely hitting of Brenden Fletcher to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Barons on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We put together a nice win," Fletcher said.
The 7th-place Barons improved to 22-24.
