Late Magic Gets Syracuse 8-5 Win
Newark shortstop Jaxon Lacombe had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Lacombe was 2-3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3, even as Syracuse beat the Bears, 8-5. Syracuse, at 24-20, occupies third place in the International League Northeast Division.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Wesley Cromwell came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Newark pitcher Pete McHugh, he hit a 2-2 knuckleball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Syracuse on top, 6-5.

In comments to the Syracuse Daily, Cromwell admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
