Chiefs Get Close Win Over Barons, 2-1
|
Victory Field featured a tense pitchers' duel.
The Wilkes-Barre Barons got a superb performance from pitcher Elijah Siddall. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Syracuse. The Chiefs won the game, 2-1. Siddall threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Getting the save was Daniel Leone, his 5th.
Had Benz Woodruff not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Woodruff hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Chiefs.
"What we get, we earn," Woodruff told the Syracuse Daily News.
The triumph puts Syracuse at 22-21 for the season.
