A good performance from third baseman Walker Matthews helped the Wilkes-Barre Barons defeat the Syracuse Chiefs, 7-3. Matthews slugged 2 home runs for the Barons. The 7th-place Barons are 17-25.

Wilkes-Barre shortstop Elliott Joseph contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 13th hit of the season and put the Barons ahead, 4-2.

Matthews called the win "a collective effort."
