Barons Turn Back Tides, 6-4
|
The Wilkes-Barre Barons dealt the Norfolk Tides a 6-4 loss at Coca-Cola Park. Bernardo García was the star on offense. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Kayden Kosek closed it out for Wilkes-Barre, earning his 2nd save. The Barons saw their record improve to 20-17.
Cavonté Merlin had a big 2-run triple for the Barons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Wilkes-Barre leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a changeup from Julio Balboa, who is tied for 6th in the IL in innings pitched with 48.2, and swatted a triple to left. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Barons ahead, 5-0.
Merlin expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
