Barons Nose Past Columbus, 6-5
|
Marshall Schaefer did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Columbus Clippers from being beaten, 6-5, to the Birmingham Barons at Raley Field. Schaefer went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The win went to Jason Martin in relief, making him now 3-0. Andy Edwards took the loss for Columbus. Birmingham now owns a record of 13-15.
Birmingham got a clutch hit from Lance Pederson. The left fielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"Good hitters want to be the ones taking those big at-bats," said Pederson.
