Hits Galore: Whittington Drills 5 Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead Birmingham's 23-4 victory over the Maine Grizzlies, left fielder Ben Whittington told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Triple A-level is really something special."

The 25-year-old player earned his accolades at Chukchansi Park with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Grizzlies.

"His swing is getting there," said Barons skipper Steve Anderson, who spoke glowingly of Whittington after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Ben did that to perfection."

Ben Whittington doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, walked in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

Whittington is hitting .511 so far this season with 14 RBIs and 6 runs scored. He has 23 hits including no home runs, 5 walks and .560 OBP.
