The Syracuse Chiefs defeated the Newark Bears, 5-1, in International League action at Victory Field. Syracuse pitcher Aiden Rioux had a standout performance. With the win, Syracuse boosts its record to 8-9.

Syracuse took control in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and the bases loaded, Van Bowman hit a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Chiefs.

"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Rioux. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
