Bears Raise Rally Flag, Beat Maine, 5-3
|
The Newark Bears dumped the Maine Grizzlies, 5-3, in large part due to first baseman Ethan Piyaporn. On the day, Piyaporn was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Bears. The winner in relief was Raymundo Baum. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-1. Ben McPherson nailed down the save.
Newark used a timely hit from Hudson Gil to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bears ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"When the ball finds the sweet spot," said Piyaporn, "I can't complain."
Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Bears hope to make a postseason run.
