Cubs Bedevil Braves, 6-5

Wrigley Field was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
The inspired effort of Atlanta center fielder Emanuel Veniard was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Chicago Cubs. Veniard went 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 times. Kayden Chin picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Ray Laboissonniere suffered the loss.
Chicago took advantage of an error in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 5-5, when J.P. Porras hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Cubs in front, 6-5.
Chicago manager Lorenzo Benitez was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
The first-place Cubs have a one-game lead in their division.
