New York Loses, 6-4, to San Francisco in 16
The San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees needed extra innings at Yankee Stadium to determine a winner.

New York got a terrific game from third baseman Riley Rhyne. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to San Francisco, 6-4, in 16 innings. Rhyne went 4-6 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. The first-place Giants go to 24-12.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Prince Kimbro came to bat in the top of the 16th. Facing New York pitcher Mal Ballard, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting San Francisco on top, 6-4.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Kimbro. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
