Atlanta beat Virginia at The Sparrow's Nest, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman Peter Guice. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Atlanta reliever Noah Thompson picked up the win, upping his record to 9-8. Harvey Allison absorbed the loss. The first-place Braves have won 4 in a row.

Guice had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-2 sinker from Harvey Allison, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Braves a 5-3 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Guice.

"I like the roll we're on," said Atlanta manager Frank Espinel.
