The Kissimmee Kumquats defeated the Hialeah Gales, 5-1, in Florida Rookie League action at Bright House Field. Kissimmee pitcher Augie Kent had a standout performance. Dave Diefenderfer notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. The first-place Kumquats lifted their record to 32-20.

Kissimmee took a 2-1 lead on Brian Bringle's 7th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Bringle hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Hialeah pitcher Thomas Brown visibly frustrated.

"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Kent told the Kissimmee Daily.
