Roughnecks Raise Rally Flag, Beat Daytona Beach, 5-3
|
The Ahwatukee Roughnecks polished off the Daytona Beach Hurricanes by the score of 5-3. The largest share of the credit belonged to catcher Miguel Carrington. Carrington went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk for the Roughnecks. Liam Cook claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. His record stands at 1-0. Ahwatukee occupies 6th place in the Arizona Rookie League South Division at 22-36.
An inflection point occurred with two out in the top of the eighth. That's when Roughnecks left fielder Salomón Contreras hit a changeup from Freeman Cartledge for a 2-run single. Just like that, Ahwatukee was up, 4-3.
"Wish we'd had more wins to celebrate like this one," said Carrington.
