Gilbert starter Randall Yang pitched well against the Tempe Impalas at Peoria Sports Complex. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. Gilbert reliever Blake Hamilton picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Grady Dorsett was tagged with the loss. Sebastian Bricka closed it out for his 2nd save.

Gilbert relied on the hitting of Hollis Freeman to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Geckos on top, 3-2. For the game, Freeman had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Yang. "And vice-versa."

Gilbert is now 30-25.
