The Pembroke Pines Herons beat the Fort Myers Flamingos at Charlotte Sports Park. The final score was 7-3 in favor of Pembroke Pines. Gerardo Mendez led the way, going 3-for-4 for the home team. The slumping Flamingos have lost 7 straight.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Herons sent teenager Cortez Manzanedo to the plate against Flamingos hurler Russell Patterson. With a runner on 2nd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a home run off a 1-0 fastball to score 2.
