The Fort Lauderdale Pirates picked up a win at Champion Stadium, courtesy of Alex Emmery. The right-hander helped his team stop the Pompano Beach Aqua Sox, 3-1. In 7.2 innings, Emmery surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. At 18-11, Fort Lauderdale is in 4th place in the Florida Rookie League Southeast Division.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from right fielder Lindsey Mansur. For the game, Mansur was 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Fort Lauderdale a 2-1 lead.
"I was able to get good plays made behind me," Emmery said. "And I was able to make pitches when I needed to make pitches."
