Herons Top Sun Dogs in Extras, 4-3
|
The Pembroke Pines Herons and Miramar Sun Dogs completed their game despite the rain.
The Pembroke Pines Herons weathered a fine game by Miramar designated hitter Sandro Valenzuela to upend the Sun Dogs, 4-3, at Roger Dean Stadium. Valenzuela went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. At 19-28, the Herons find themselves in last place in the Florida Rookie League Southeast Division.
Pembroke Pines used the timely hitting of Piero Siegrist to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Herons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Siegrist.
