Fresno pitcher J.B. Whitson gave the Rangers all they could handle, but in the end, Texas left Savemart Center with a win, 1-0. Whitson allowed no runs on 5 hits over 6 innings. The last-place Rangers hiked their record to 55-81.

Chevy Valdes, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, had a direct impact on the outcome. Valdes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Texas up, 1-0.
