Third Baseman Vanegas has 3 hits in Chicago Win
|
The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11-3, at Wrigley Field. Yesus Vanegas was one of the standouts for Chicago. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 triple -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 4 he knocked in. The winning pitcher was Noam Bennett. He tossed 76 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. The Cubs go to 12-21 with the win.
J.P. Porras had a big 2-run triple for the Cubs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Chicago leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from former first round draft pick Sancho Ortega and swatted a triple to left-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 5-2.
"The team always comes first," Porras told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
