Saguaros Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Flagstaff Blue Devils wasted an inspired, 5.2-inning effort from starter Kent Ely, falling, 2-1, to the Mesa Saguaros at Capitals Ballpark. Mesa reliever Oscar Thomas picked up the win. Blake Perales took the loss for Flagstaff. Picking up the save was 19-year old right-handed pitcher Oliver Roark.
Mesa took a 1-0 lead on Jacob Johnston's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Johnston hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Flagstaff pitcher Blake Perales visibly frustrated.
Johnston told reporters after the game: "Runs were scarce, so we had to work hard to get the W."
The Saguaros now have a record of 27-21.
