In a tight tilt between the Glendale Gauchos and the Ahwatukee Roughnecks, Thomas Aves was the deciding factor. The Glendale right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Florencio Cabanes was called on to finish, recording his 7th save. Glendale is first in the Arizona Rookie League North Division with a record of 33-17.

Clifford Carr had a big 2-run home run for the Gauchos in the bottom of the third inning. With Glendale leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 17-year old right-handed pitcher Kenneth Dormeus and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Gauchos on top, 3-0.

"We were in it," said Ahwatukee manager Ray Badgerow. "We just didn't score enough runs."
