Sidewinders Fall, 5-3, to Santiago, Saguaros
|
Capitals Ballpark was the site of a competitive game between the Surprise Sidewinders and Mesa Saguaros.
Javy Santiago was a major factor in the 5-3 Mesa win over Surprise. The Saguaros left fielder was 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Renato Castillo nailed down his 7th save.
Santiago had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-0 fastball from Ryan Marsh, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Saguaros a 5-3 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Santiago.
Said Mesa manager Jamar DeSousa: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
Mesa, at 26-16, occupies first place in the Arizona Rookie League South Division.
