Red Sox Get 7-2 Win Versus New York
|
The Boston Red Sox and New York Mets squared off at Citi Field.
The Boston Red Sox knocked off the New York Mets, 7-2, in American League action at Citi Field. Boston pitcher and De Pere, Wisconsin, native Lincoln Tolson had an outstanding performance. Tolson got the win, improving to 3-3. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 9 innings. He allowed 2 runs.
Tony Meinershagen had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the top of the first inning. With Boston leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a changeup from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Jock Pike and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 4-0.
"It's a mindset," said Tolson. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
The win gives Boston a record of 17-14.
