Goodyear Ballpark was the site for Arizona Rookie League action featuring the Florence Swordfish and Yuma Gnomes.
Jake Pickel, who is tied for 7th in the AZL with a 2.15 ERA, propelled his team to victory over the Florence Swordfish. The final score was 6-3, Yuma. The winner was Pickel. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Jeremiah Izzo.
Yuma used the hitting of Damian Hauff to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Gnomes on top, 2-0. For the game, Hauff had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Hauff was taciturn after the game. "A win's a win," he said.
The first-place Gnomes now have a record of 31-8.
