Impalas Earn Late 9-8 Win
|
Ahwatukee got a terrific game from shortstop Anitelea Ardern. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Tempe, 9-8. Ardern was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. The win gives the Impalas a record of 7-28.
The Impalas were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 21-year old catcher Levon Derry landed a big blow. He turned a full count fastball from Monty Bowman into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Peoria Sports Complex denizens into a frenzy and sent the Impalas home with a thrilling 9-8 win.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Derry told reporters after the game.
